    THE SPLENDID SELF

For as long as people have had developed minds, and evolved imagination, they have sought to know more about themselves.

The most important aspects of self-seeking are the pursuit of fresh air, water, food, shelter, and clothing (warmth), in that order of importance.

Once those essentials are catered for, thoughts might turn inwards and wonder about the nature of self.    brain with measuring tape

Psychologists and philosophers have generated millions of words on the subject of self.

Many religions and other spiritual philosophies have tried to define the person or individual as many things; some devoted to gaining control over that individual, by subjugating the self, into a greater whole, usually using the purported sayings of some god or other.

Such teaching becomes useful to those seeking power over others, for example by threatening some dreadful outcome after death if a person does not abide by certain rules, which are purported to be God-derived, but which are usually contrived by some leader or prophet.

(It has been written that if only humans could fully accept that there is, nor ever has been, any connection between this world in which we live for a short time, and the world, if any, after death claims us, we would be far happier in our regard for ourselves as a species.)

Sometimes, religious teaching may be devoted to providing a means to assist all members of a community by demanding or encouraging selfless acts and intentions among their followers. Often to the good of all.

As for Preventatists, we propose that in defending against the stresses of life, all else becomes self-evident.

Preventatism does not challenge any religious principle, nor is it a religion, or in any way spiritual.

Preventatism is a prophylactic philosophy, which, if followed, defends the mind and body of the user against the effects of the stresses of life, and the mayhem they can cause within the individual body. Therefore, the only interest that Preventatism has, is in offering and providing that defence where it is sought.

The principles are based on long experience and thought concerning stress and its outcomes, observation plus the growing realisation in medical circles that stress does have an influence in matters of human health and wellness.

Each individual person has experiences from the day of their conception which influence their view and opinions about life in general, their own place in it, and their assessment of themselves. The acquisition of knowledge and participation in the adventures of their own lives, provides them with their assessments and feelings about their position in life.

Some of these will be negative and suppress any natural optimism they may have had about themselves and their value to others.

To an experienced Preventatist this outcome is part of that plan we talked about.

We have experience of teaching these Preventatists principles to many people, at many ages and stages of life, from age 4 or 5 years to age 80 plus. Thus, we have seen many individuals approach the principles.

Some have found them difficult to understand and follow. It seems that the origins of these doubts have been based upon religious beliefs, although people holding many religious principles have been able to accept the teachings of Preventatism. Others have accepted and used them to the great benefit of their health and wellbeing.

Since we Preventatists see a plan being unfolded in life, it is easy to appreciate that every person has a part to play in its unfolding story.

    There are no exceptions.

Each human being plays a part in the whole, and so is vital to the telling. Without the input of any person, the story told would be entirely changed, and the input of all of us influences many others.

The quantity of that influence is varied and is allied to the part we all play, but each actor in the performance of life’s drama is vital. Without each person, the plan would take a completely different path.

From this assumption, the knowledge flows easily that each person has a great worth, and should regard themselves as such; valuable, desirable, and utterly necessary to Life and its continual development.

Each of us might accept the notion that:

“I am the most important person in the universe. There is nobody more important than me!”

The acceptance of this premise directly influences the individual’s attitude and responses to and from their Guardian, which, in turn, influences their health and wellness.

Our personal Guardians are devoted to the health and well-being of each individual and are under no doubt as to the importance of that devotion, and will pursue it with fidelity, speed, commitment, and allegiance.

We have witnessed many examples of this devotion and action.

A committed belief in self is a most powerful tool in our seeking after the happiness associated with continual health and wellness.

Seek this belief for yourself and adopt the fullest extent of its usefulness to you and your Life.

There is a statement which may assist you in this endeavour to see yourself as vital and important.

Am I as ugly as people say?

Because whenever I look in the mirror I always think

    Beauty does exist within me

And I am in no position to believe that

I am not good enough to be loved

    Because no matter what

    I still deserve love

And nothing you say will make me believe

That I am a worthless, terrible person

So rest assured I will remind myself

There is beauty inside of me that matters

And I’m not going to lie to myself by saying

I hate myself in every single way

Because at the end of the day

I am a very beautiful person

So don’t try to convince me that

    I’m very ugly

    I’m very ugly

So don’t try to convince me that

I am a very beautiful person

Because at the end of the day

I hate myself in every single way

And I’m not going to lie to myself by saying

There is beauty inside of me that matters

So rest assured I will remind myself

That I am a worthless, terrible person

And nothing you say will make me believe

    I still deserve love

    Because no matter what

I am not good enough to be loved

And I am in no position to believe that

    Beauty does exist within me

Because whenever I look in the mirror I always think

Am I as ugly as people say?

If you decide to equip yourself with only one thing through your Life, then let it be the thought that you are ...

The most important person ... not only where you are at present, but in the    whole world.

There is nobody more important than You are.

Without You, the whole Universal Grand Plan would not be possible.
